A total of 244 residents of Ikorodu and dwellers from other places were screened at the opening day of the free cataract screening and surgery programme .
The exercise which started today will be concluded tomorrow.
The initiative which is sponsored by the RHODA Youth Centre in conjunction with Eye Foundation Hospital, is meant to offer free cataract surgery for those that have the eye disease.

The two – day screening which is targeting 500 residents is holding at the RHODA Youth Centre, Abiodun Ogunleye Street, Solomade, Ikorodu.
90 of the screened patients were detected with cataract while 85 others were issued free glasses to correct their eye defects.
Drugs were also issued to others who were in need.

According to the founder of the centre who is also the Chairman, Ikorodu -Oga Development Association (IKODASS), Asiwaju Rotimi Erogbogbo, the aim of the exercise is to prevent blindness and assist people having defected eyes with corrections.
He said that eyes play major roles in human survival and good living, thus, the need to care for the organ.

The initiator who said that he is disturbed at the level of eye defect and damage in the society, added that the partnership with the Eye Foundation Hospital is part of means of offering assistance to those who cannot afford the cost of operations and encourage good sight.
The cataract surgery will hold at the Eye Foundation Hospital along Shagamu Road, Sabo, Ikorodu.
The screening exercise continues on Thursday.
